Rene Van ZUUK
René Van Zuuk a Dutch architect and professor, finished building production technology at the Technische Universiteit Eindhoven in 1988, the same university he teaches in today. Soon after graduating he worked at the office of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill in London and Chicago and won a competition entitled, “Ongewoon wonen II” (Unusual living II) in Almere.
In 1993 he founded his own firm, René van Zuuk Architekten in Almere. His firm is responsible for a large variety of designs that they established for the past 16 years up to this date. The firm focuses on a continuous search for new methods on all their designs. Their respective projects maximize unity and create a "particularity". Structure, building production technology, and construction, all these are big factors in his designs and plans. His projects emanate inimitable design despite his means of simple manufacturing. These designs start as an idea that is flawlessly executed into a grand edifice which is clearly shown in his well known projects like the free standing object-like building, the Architecture Centre Amsterdam (ARCAM), the Zilverparkkade, and the Spikvoorde II. He is also well known for his sculpture-architecture and calls them „Mathematical Sculptures‟.
Prof. René Van Zuuk also won several awards that appreciate his exceptional contribution to Architecture like the Archiprix eervolle vermelding (1987), Architectuurprijs Almere (1999) and Nominatie Lensvelt/ de Architect Interieurprijs.
