ARCHINET!
the UNIVERSITY OF SANTO TOMAS
ARCHITECTURE NETWORK

The University of Santo Tomas Architecture Network (UST - Archinet) is an academic student organization, recognized and existing under and by virtue of charter granted by the university, which aims to provide oppurtunities for interaction and collaboration between its member students, architects, and professionals both local and international through a series of relevant activities that will promote intellectual dialouge, discussion, debate, deliberation and dissertation with regards to the practice of architecture.

Archinet's begginings was not necessarily humble. It was born out of a very ambitious vision to set out the plans for a week - long international architecture conference. Then Dean Chona E. Ponce gathered the best leaders from among the various organizations in the college and assembled them into a dynamic team which was then known as archive. It was tasked to oversee the preparation for what would have been the biggest student - initiated event in the college. But due to time and financial constraints, the project did not push through. Nevertheless, true leaders as they were, Archive's officers mapped out alternative ways to fullfill its mission. In 2006, it assembled itself into a legal student organization, recruited partners and conducted relevant activities by which it slowly gained recognition. It also established a website with an online forum that caters specifically to architecture students and enthusiasts. The organization was renamed Architecture Network or ARCHINET and to this day it has been the premiere architecture society in the UST College of Architecture. Every year, ARCHINET keeps raising the bar in terms of providing quality out-of-the-classroom learning experiences for students.
The National Architecture Symposium started in January 2009, where ArchitectureNetwork(ARCHINET) invited world renowed architects and professionals in a dialouge about pressing issues on architecture and the environment. Archinet made this into an annual event initiating discussions that will hopefully lead to action. This event is the biggest student - initiated activity in the college that gathers architecture students from different universities nationwide, members of the academe, as well as practicing professionals in a one day learning event.
